Reiziger - Our Kodo

Ok, so this is the first post, on my first blog (surprisingly, this blog is in no way, shape or form affiliated with 'Fisher Price'.) I guess that when I click the little tab which say's 'Publish Post', I will officially be a 'blogger', If i even get that far. Not sure how I feel about that......anyway, I digress.

I wanted my first post to set some form of precedent for the future of this blog. My idea is to choose some of my favourite records that are not widely available or are relatively unknown, and share them with you, the general public. Our Kodo by Reiziger ticks both boxes, so i'll get cracking with some actual information about this record, and stop wasting your precious time.

Reiziger where a band from Belgium that existed between 1995 to 2001, rising from the ashes of Belgian emo band 'Kosjer D', this being their first of three LP's created during their time together, originally released in 1998.

The reason why i would deem this record as pretty much perfect and 'share-worthy', is because they pick certain musical traits connected to their adopted sub-genres (post-hardcore/post-punk/emo, ect), they play them well, and most importantly, don't over do them. The end result being 8 perfectly-crafted tracks, each with it's own charm and integrity.

The guitars are sharp and jagged, whilst being pulled together by a tight rhythm section which often forces laid back, monotonous grooves that somehow remain enchanting throughout.
Said grooves are broken up by the odd stop-start rhythm, driving tempo's, changes in dynamics, and the occasional explosive build-up in which the guitar's are over-driven and screeching controlled feedback is allowed to ooze out for a brief moment.
The vocals are done in a great half-spoken/half-sung fashion, with a clear delivery that often shows evidence of a european accent, which adds a nice, honest feel to the record.
Lyrically, it touches on the subjects you'd expect it to, with the odd cringe-worthy line which we're all accustomed to and secretly love.

Musically, I guess you'd file Reiziger next to the likes of The Van Pelt and Karate, but If you're a fan of any 90's emo/post-hardcore/indie-rock, then you could do a hell of a lot worse than clicking this here link and giving it a listen. I find it to be especially good for lazy Sundays, but don't restrict it to those situations.

Enjoy.
